Zenica: Little Olympics basketball games begin, over 300 students participating in cantonal competition

(Patria) - Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDK) Mirza Mušija officially opened the cantonal basketball competition within the framework of the Little Olympics, which gathered around 330 students from 33 primary and secondary schools from the area of 10 municipalities and cities of ZDK.

The competition is being held at the Arena "Husejin Smajlović" and the Catholic School Center "Sveti Pavao" in Zenica, where young athletes have the opportunity to showcase their skills, team spirit, and sports enthusiasm.



The Minister expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of students and schools, emphasizing the importance of sports in the upbringing and development of young generations.

He stated that "today we see not only matches and results, but also smiles, friendships, support from the stands, and that special energy that connects us all".

- This is a day when moments are remembered, not just points. Sport is much more than competition and results. Sport is a school of character, work, order, and discipline.

But today I will add something else - sport is heart. A heart that teaches you how to win with dignity, but also how to accept defeat with your head held high.

You may not all take home medals, but each of you carries something much more valuable today - the courage to step onto the court, to fight, to believe in yourself, and to be part of a team - said Mušija.



The Little Olympics represent one of the most important school sports projects in the Zenica-Doboj Canton, with the aim of promoting healthy lifestyles, fair play, and unity among young people.

Such events best confirm the importance of sports for the proper development of youth, strengthening team spirit, and adopting healthy life habits.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of ZDK will continue to support projects that promote school sports and the active involvement of children and young people in sports activities.
