Xabi Alonso to succeed Don Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid

(Patria) - Xabi Alonso will soon take over the bench at Real Madrid, reports transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

"Xabi Alonso is ready to say 'yes' to Real Madrid and then complete his move as soon as the process of parting ways with Ancelotti is concluded.

Bayer is accelerating the process of finding a new coach and negotiations are progressing, as they now expect Xabi to leave the club," Romano stated.

Alonso has decided to end his three-year spell at Bayer Leverkusen and is ready to sign a three-year contract with the Royal Club.

Ancelotti's future in Madrid has been called into question after weaker results this season – elimination in the Champions League quarter-finals by Arsenal, and losses in the finals of the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey against Barcelona. Although there is still a theoretical chance to win La Liga, Real is currently four points behind Barcelona.

Regardless of the recent results, Ancelotti's second tenure at the helm of Real has been extremely successful – he won two La Ligas, two Champions Leagues, one Copa del Rey, and the FIFA Club World Cup. The club is preparing a ceremonial farewell for him at the end of the season, and speculation is growing that he might take on his next challenge as the coach of the Brazilian national team.
