Washington: Selimović at Roundtable on Role of Financial Education in Strengthening Monetary Policies

(Patria) - Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina Jasmina Selimović participated in a roundtable on the role of financial education in strengthening monetary policies, organized in Washington by the World Economic Forum.

On that occasion, Selimović emphasized that the Central Bank of BiH does not view financial education as merely informing the public, but as a structural element of the development of the financial and educational system.

During the discussion, it was highlighted that financial literacy should be systematically integrated into economic decision-making processes and the long-term development of the financial system.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of strengthening institutional coordination between central banks, educational institutions, and the financial sector.



Governor Selimović, who participated in this gathering at the invitation of the world's leading expert in the field of financial education, Annamaria Lusardi, stated that the Central Bank of BiH is transitioning from a project-based to an institutionalized, sustainable, and systemic approach to financial education.

According to her words, the goal is for Bosnia and Herzegovina to obtain its own financial literacy strategy, with the necessary inclusion of financial education in educational curricula.

The invitation to participate in this international event is proof of the strategic commitment and engagement of the Central Bank of BiH in the field of financial education, with a special focus on improving the financial literacy of young people, developing educational programs in the education system, and strengthening cooperation with domestic and international partners.

Annamaria Lusardi, a renowned professor of economics and accounting at Stanford University, supported in March 2025 the initiative of the Central Bank of BiH for the integration of financial education into primary, secondary, and higher education, as well as the importance of BiH's participation in the PISA testing for 2029.
