(VIDEO) RESPONSE FROM RS: BiH flag placed on Košut peak on Jahorina removed

(Patria) - After members of the Mountain Rescue Service - GSS Novi Grad placed the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina on one of Jahorina's peaks, Košut, which belongs to the Federation of BiH, over the weekend, the flag was removed on Monday.

This was confirmed by Nedeljko Elek, President of the Supervisory Board of OC Jahorina, who stated that "no flag other than the flag of Republika Srpska will fly on Jahorina".

The flagpole on which the BiH flag was placed is 12 meters high.

"This is a location where the JNA aviation and anti-aircraft defense communications radar center used to be. It is interesting that this JNA position was targeted by NATO strikes in 1995 when radar systems were destroyed, and according to the Dayton administrative line, this part of Jahorina fell under the Federation of BiH, i.e., the municipality of Trnovo. It is less known to the public that approximately half of the Jahorina mountain - the southeastern side belongs to the Federation of BiH, while the northwestern part, where the Jahorina Ski Center is located, is on the territory of the RS entity," announced the mayor of Novi Grad municipality, Semir Efendić.

GSS Novi Grad participates in rescue operations throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, whether it concerns mountains, rivers, or lakes, as well as urban areas. In addition, they distinguished themselves in rescue operations after the devastating earthquake in Turkey, where they rescued 10 survivors from the rubble in the city of Hatay.
