(Patria) - Protests by students began at 4 PM in Slavija Square, joined by farmers, actors, and citizens. University of Belgrade student Petar Seratlić says the primary goal is to send a message that they are dissatisfied and emphasize that there are no plans for marches and speeches.
“The plan is to gather today, to be silent, to be a little loud. For now, our fight is a student fight, but we see this as the fight of the entire nation and we call on everyone to join us today,” Seratlić told N1 Serbia.
Commenting on what is being said on social media about possible incidents, he said that it is always possible for incidents to occur at protests, but he doubts they will be on a large scale.
“We are against incidents, but we will defend ourselves if necessary,” he said.
Actress Svetlana Ceca Bojković told N1 at the protest that “youth has truly awakened”.
As she said, “when she came out on the street in Terazije, when she saw such a large number of young people, tears welled up in her eyes”.
Students marching from Autokomanda towards Slavija carried a banner that read “The state is the property of children”. Protests are being held in numerous cities across Serbia.
