
(Patria) - The Constitutional Court of Croatia will on Monday rule on the announced candidacy of President Zoran Milanović on the SDP's list in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The President of the Constitutional Court has convened a Professional Meeting of Judges for Monday at 11 AM, followed by a Court Session, which will address the item - Oversight of the constitutionality and legality of elections in light of the statement by the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, that he will run in the elections for members of the Croatian Parliament, announced by the President of the Republic's decision of March 15, 2024, according to a statement from the Constitutional Court.
Speaking today at the session of the Main Board, SDP President Peđa Grbin called on the Constitutional Court to make a decision as soon as possible on whether "what is not prohibited by any article of the Constitution or law" is permissible, and emphasized that he will respect the court's decision, whatever it may be.
Constitutional experts in the public are debating whether Milanović should resign before running or if he can enter the electoral race while still in office as president.
