Record rainfall in Zadar

(Patria) - Large amounts of rain have fallen in the Zadar area from last night to this morning - as much as 164 liters per square meter.

Almost all parts of Zadar are flooded, and stormy south wind has cut off most islands from the mainland, confirmed Anđelko Vidović, head of the Meteorological Station in Zadar, to Hina.

According to this morning's measurements at the DHMZ meteorological station Zadar Puntamika, from Sunday at 7 AM to Monday at 7 AM, 164 millimeters of precipitation per square meter fell, which is a record daily amount for March since 1961, when measurements have been taken at this station.

Moreover, this amount fell in less than 12 hours. Even though only a third of the month has passed, according to unofficial data, a new record for the total monthly precipitation in March at the Zadar Puntamika station has already been reached.

From March 1st to March 11th at 7 AM, as much as 223 millimeters of precipitation was measured. The previous record was set in 1985, when 202 millimeters fell during the entire month of March.

Due to strong south winds, many catamaran and ferry lines on the central and southern Adriatic are suspended.

So far, 27 firefighting interventions have been carried out in Zadar, with 14 ongoing.
