(Patria) - The European Judo Championship for Veterans and the European Kata Championship start tomorrow in Sarajevo and will last until June 11.
By awarding the hosting and technical organization to the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the European Judo Union (EJU) has once again confirmed its exceptional trust in the organizational capabilities of our country's governing federation.
- On behalf of the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I wish everyone a warm welcome to the European Championship for Veterans, one of the biggest official sports events this year in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our Federation and all individuals involved in the technical organization will, as always, do their utmost to ensure the event runs smoothly, especially considering this is the first time we are organizing an event for veterans - said the President of the Federation, Ognjen Pavlović.
This major international competition in the capital of our homeland will gather nearly 800 competitors from 36 countries, and according to current registrations, 658 male judokas and 125 female judokas will participate in the Old Continent Championship.
Bosnia and Herzegovina will be represented by 31 competitors at this event, which is marked in the EJU's competition calendar as one of the most important, especially in an Olympic year.
Unlike some previous competitions for which the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was the technical organizer, this time it was decided that the competition area would consist of four tatamis instead of three, allowing all spectators to follow four fights simultaneously, which is certainly a guarantee of an even better atmosphere in the hall.
- I would also like to thank Mr. László Tóth, President of the European Judo Union, for the trust shown in awarding us the organization of the event, and the local authorities for the support they have provided us in organizing it - emphasized President Pavlović.
It is important to emphasize that all judokas over 30 years of age are eligible to compete in this European Championship for Veterans, provided that at least one year has passed since their last senior appearance.
Following the conclusion of the two competitions, a Kodokan Kata seminar will also be held, which will last from June 12 to 14.
