European Senior Judo Cup begins tomorrow in Sarajevo

(Patria) - Over the next two days, Sarajevo will host the European Senior Judo Cup, whose technical organiser is the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

More than 300 male and female judokas from 30 countries, across four continents, will compete in this prestigious international competition, which is just one in a series of events organised by our federation and which is part of the competition calendar of the European Judo Union.

- With excellent technical organisations in recent years, the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has set high standards, and the umbrella body of European judo has shown that it greatly appreciates all the efforts and endeavours to ensure that competitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina run at a high level - said Arijana Jaha, Secretary General of the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The colours of our country at this competition will be defended by 24 judokas, and in previous editions of this competition, BiH representatives have often stood on the winners' podium.

The Samardžić sisters, Aleksandra and Anđela, are certainly among those from whom a good result is expected, as are Toni Miletić and Božidar Vučurević, two judokas competing in the under-90 kg category.

- It is always a special feeling to compete in front of a home crowd, especially in your own city. Besides being an honour, it is also a responsibility, but I hope that this time things will fall into place as I expect and that with maximum effort I will achieve the desired result - said Toni Miletić, a BiH national team member.

Miletić emphasised that one should not overlook the fact that the competition in the category in which he competes is always fierce.

- These are all guys who are training to the maximum and are excellently prepared, and sometimes a small detail decides. Even the slightest lapse in concentration, a lack of focus, decides the fight... Judo is such a sport - added Miletić.

The programme of the first competition day begins with preliminary fights starting at 10:00, and entry to Arena Hills is free for all visitors.
