(Patria) - The Norwegian Police Directorate decided yesterday to rearm police officers due to increased threats against the Muslim community.
"The National Police Commissioner has decided that from today the police will be armed across the country," it was announced yesterday.
The police added that the threats were directed at Muslim religious communities ahead of the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
"These are threats against mosques," an unnamed spokesman for the Norwegian police told Agence France-Presse.
The police in that country are generally unarmed, but they temporarily carried weapons from March 27 to April 2 during the Easter period.
