Competitors from 44 countries at Sarajevo Marathon on Sunday, traffic diversions as runners move

(Patria) - The 'Dečki u plavom' association is organizing the fifth edition of the ‘Sarajevo Marathon’ powered by Cedevita Vitamin Water, which will be held on Sunday, May 12th, as the largest sports and running event in our country. The start is at 8 AM from the plateau opposite Vijećnica. As announced by the association, they have 1,999 participants from 44 countries.

"In addition to the 42 km marathon and the 21 km half-marathon, participants can expect the Alkaloid 5K Run, and for the youngest, there is also the BASH Kids Run. Also, our desire is to encourage those who run 5 km to raise the bar even higher next year and prepare for a half-marathon, and later for a marathon, all in accordance with our slogan ‘Let’s run and have some fun’", the statement reads.

The Sarajevo Marathon route is among the few that connect two cities, Sarajevo and East Sarajevo. The current course record is 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 54 seconds, set by Laban Cheruiyot, an athlete from Kenya.

KJKP Gras has informed the public that in accordance with the Decision of the Ministry of Transport of KS, and upon the request of the Association ‘Dečki u plavom’ due to the holding of the sports event ‘Sarajevo Marathon 2024’ on the route of the marathon race (START - Obala Isa bega Isakovića - Novi most Vijećnica - Obala Kulina bana – Telali - Mula Mustafe Bašeskije - Maršala Tita - Zmaja od Bosne - Bulevar Meše Selimovića - Džemala Bijedića - Sarajevska cesta - Blažujski drum - Vrelo Bosne - Velika aleja - IV Viteške Brigade - Hrasnička cesta - Put Famosa - Želimira Vidovića Kelija - Ante Babića - Safeta Hadžića – Zvornička (Bulevar Ivice Osima) – Grbavička – Zagrebačka – Terezije – Skenderija - Hamdije Kreševljakovića – Bistrik - Obala Isa bega Isakovića – FINISH), on Sunday, May 12th, 2024, from 07:30 AM to 1:30 PM, there will be a temporary phased traffic suspension, which will lead to the following changes in public city passenger transport:

- Tram and trolleybus traffic will be temporarily suspended during the movement of runners along the routes of these modes of transport until conditions for their operation are ensured;
- Bus and minibus lines (31e Vijećnica-Dobrinja, 16b Dom Armije-Koševsko Brdo, 18 Drvenija-Pofalići, 41 Drvenija-G. Velešići, 27 Ilidža-Hrasnica-Famos, 28 Ilidža-Rakovica-Kobiljača, 33 Ilidža-Tarčin-Vukovići, 43 Ilidža-Osjek, 46 Ilidža-Vlakovo, and 75 Ilidža-Mokrine) whose routes overlap with the runners' route will be temporarily suspended or diverted via alternative routes in accordance with the instructions of police officers on the ground.

Traffic flow regulation in the area of traffic suspension will be carried out by members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of KS.

Traffic suspensions will be partial, following the movement of the runner's convoy. Traffic normalization on the main city thoroughfare on the Vijećnica – Ilidža section will be established by 11 AM – states the press release from Dečki u plavom.
