KS Prosecutor's Office Actively Taking Action in Leptospirosis Case

(Patria) - The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office informed the public on May 23 that it had formed a case ex officio following media reports about the outbreak of the infectious disease leptospirosis, which is transmitted by rodents in the Sarajevo Canton area.

On that day, an epidemic of leptospirosis was declared in the Sarajevo Canton, and so far there have been 67 reported cases of leptospirosis. The KS Prosecutor's Office confirmed yesterday that actions are actively being taken in this case.

The KS Public Health Institute specified that the reason for the outbreak of the infection is the failure to carry out the mandatory legal deratization during the past two years. The last deratization was only carried out in the autumn of last year, and before that, the last one was in 2022.

Two years without deratization resulted in the proliferation of rodents, and everything escalated with the outbreak of the infectious disease.
