
(Patria) - The Turkish national basketball team achieved a victory against Sweden with a score of 85:79, thus securing a spot in the EuroBasket quarterfinals.
The Turks achieved the triumph with more difficulty than expected, after a comeback in the second half.
The Swedes opened the game excellently and took a 0:6 lead, maintaining the advantage until the end of the first quarter, which they finished with a score of 20:23.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Turkey equalized at 28:28, but then the Swedes went on a 0:5 run, and towards the end of the quarter they reached a maximum lead of plus seven (32:39).
The Swedes went into halftime with a 37:42 lead.
The turnaround occurred in the third quarter when Turkey, with a 14:0 run, took a 51:44 lead, and towards the end of the third period they had an 11-point advantage (61:50).
The final quarter brought great drama, as the Swedes gradually reduced the deficit and managed to equalize at 69:69 midway through the quarter.
In the closing stages of the match, Alperen Sengun played a key role, finishing the game with a double-double performance – 24 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists – leading Turkey to victory and a place in the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Turkey will play against the winner of tomorrow's duel between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland, scheduled for 11:00 AM.
