Grief in Gondomar: Final Farewell for Footballer Diogo Jota and His Brother

(Patria) - Rute Cardoso, the wife of tragically deceased footballer Diogo Jota, arrived this morning in front of the church in his hometown of Gondomar, where the final farewell is being held for him and his brother André Silva, who died in a serious traffic accident in Spain.

Teammates were alongside friends and family at the funeral of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva on Saturday.

Jota, who had entered into marriage just two weeks ago, left behind three young children. His death has shaken not only his family but the entire world of football.

Hundreds of people gathered at the commemoration, including numerous famous football stars such as Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Bernardo Silva and Virgil van Dijk, who came to pay their respects to their colleague and friend.

The tragedy occurred early on Thursday morning when the Lamborghini Huracan they were traveling in veered off the A-52 motorway in Spain and caught fire. It is believed that the accident was caused by a tire blowout. Jota, after recent lung surgery, decided to travel by car, and his brother André went with him to keep him company.

The funeral mass was held in a close family circle at the church in Gondomar, while others gathered could follow the ceremony via loudspeakers. The family thanked everyone for their immense support and sympathy.
