Trump awarded FIFA's first Peace Prize

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump is the recipient of the first Peace Prize, awarded tonight by the International Football Federation (FIFA).

The award was presented to Trump by FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the draw for the World Football Championship groups in Washington. The US President immediately put the medal around his neck.

- FIFA's Peace Prize is awarded annually to a distinguished individual dedicated to promoting peace worldwide through their unwavering actions.

Like everyone here in the room, we see images of war around the world, and like everyone, we suffer for every child who dies and cry with every mother who loses someone they love.

We want to live in a safe world. You definitely deserve the first FIFA Peace Prize, which you have won in your own way. You can always count on my support and the support of the football community, Infantino said.

Trump, in his address, stated that this is one of the greatest honors of his life.

- We have saved millions of lives. Congo was an example. More than ten million people were killed, and another ten million would have been killed. India and Pakistan...

So many different wars that we have managed to end, and in some cases, before they even began... Thank you for this honor, the world is now a more peaceful place, Trump stated.

The US President thanked Canada and Mexico for their friendship, adding that they will create "an event the world has never seen before."

The head of the football governing body recently said he has an excellent relationship with Trump.

- I have an excellent relationship with President Trump, whom I truly consider a close friend. Of course, he has been of great help in everything we are doing for the World Cup.

He has incredible energy, and I truly appreciate that. He acts. And he does what he says. He says what he thinks. In fact, he says what many people also think, but perhaps do not dare to say, Infantino said.
