(Patria) - FIFA has once again experimented with the official ball for the biggest national team tournament, and at the World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico, the "Trionda" (three waves) ball will also be technologically equipped.
The design of the ball, made by Adidas, features red, green and blue colours, paying tribute to the World Cup hosts.
“The ball is adorned with iconography representing each host country, with a maple leaf for Canada, an eagle for Mexico and a star for the USA, while gold decorations pay homage to the FIFA World Cup trophy,” the official FIFA website states.
A special dimension is added to the ball by “connected ball technology” – built-in sensors that track every touch, speed and trajectory of the ball.
The system will register ball movements 500 times per second, enabling more precise game analysis and assisting referees with contentious situations. Because of this, referees will no longer be able to excuse potential mistakes, as in addition to the VAR system, there is also the technologically advanced ball.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said he is happy and proud to present Trionda.
“The official ball for the 2026 World Cup has arrived and it is a real beauty. Adidas has created another iconic World Cup ball, whose design reflects the unity and passion of the hosts Canada, Mexico and the USA.
I can't wait to see this beautiful ball hitting the back of the net. The countdown to the biggest World Cup ever has begun,” Infantino said.
The 2026 World Cup will be played from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and for the first time in history, 48 teams will participate.
The draw for the World Cup groups is scheduled for December 5 in Las Vegas.
