Heavy defeat for Bosnia's women's handball team in Switzerland at the start of Euro qualifiers

(Patria) - The Bosnia and Herzegovina women's national handball team suffered a heavy defeat at the opening of the qualifiers for the 2026 European Championship.

The Zmajice lost tonight in Winterthur to the host selection of Switzerland with a score of 35:19.

The weakened Bosnian team failed to match the favored Swiss, who set the pace from the very start of the match and confirmed why they were 12th at the last European Championship.

Switzerland already took a large lead of eight goals in the first half (19:11), effectively deciding the winner.

In the continuation of the match, the home handball players continued their dominance, further increasing the lead and ultimately celebrating with a convincing 16-goal margin.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina national team continues the qualifiers on Saturday, when they will host the Netherlands in Cazin at 8:00 PM.

For the Dutch, who finished sixth at the last European Championship, this match will serve as a dress rehearsal ahead of the World Championship starting next month.

After the duel with the Dutch, the Zmajice will play two matches against Italy in March, which could be key in the fight to continue the qualifiers.
