(Patria) - Tesla is recalling 125,227 vehicles in the US due to a malfunction in the seatbelt warning system.
This could increase the risk of injury in a collision, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned yesterday.
The regulatory body stated that the vehicles did not meet federal safety requirements, as the seatbelt warning light and audible alert may not activate when the driver is unbuckled.
Specifically, the recall affects Model S vehicles from 2012-2024, Model X vehicles from 2015-2024, Model 3 vehicles from 2017-2023, and Model Y vehicles from 2020-2023.
Tesla will notify the public when it will update the software on these vehicles to resolve the issue, with the process expected to begin in June.
This is the third problem the manufacturer has faced since the beginning of the year, as in January, 200,000 Model S, X, and Y vehicles were recalled due to a software defect that could obstruct drivers' rearward visibility.
In April, Tesla recalled 3,878 "Cybertrucks" to fix a gas pedal stopper that could loosen and become stuck.
