(Patria) - Bosnia and Herzegovina has named its best athletes for the 25th time, and the year drawing to a close was marked by swimmer Lana Pudar and basketball player Edin Atić, who were crowned tonight at the "Holiday" hotel in Sarajevo at the event for the Best Athlete of BiH, organized by "Nezavisne novine" and Radio Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHRT).

This is the fourth consecutive time Pudar has received the prestigious title, while this is the first award for the Bosnia basketball player. This year, the jury was chaired by legendary BiH footballer Mehmed Baždarević, who, along with the rest of the jury, had a difficult task but ultimately made fair decisions by consensus.

Lana Pudar won a silver medal at the European Championship for swimmers under 23 years of age in the 200m butterfly discipline. This year, she began her university career in the United States of America, representing the University of Virginia. Also competing were skier Elvedina Muzaferija, cyclist Lejla Njemčević, karateka Emina Sipović, taekwondo athlete Džejla Makaš, and judoka Anđela Samardžić.

Edin Atić shone at the European Championship this summer. The basketball player of Sarajevo's Bosna was one of the key players in Adis Bećiragić's team, which made history at Eurobasket. "The Dragons" reached the knockout stage of the European Championship after 32 years. In six games, he averaged 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. He was the seventh-best assist provider in the competition. Nominees for the best athlete included Anes Bostandžić (karate), Vedad Karić (cycling), Jovan Lekić (swimming), Amel Tuka (athletics), Damir Džumhur (tennis), and Toni Miletić (judo).

The men's basketball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina received the award for the best team. The award for the best coach deservedly went to Adis Bećiragić, the architect of the historic result at Eurobasket. Cadet European shooting champion Zakira Pušina and Borac Banja Luka's football gem Matej Deket were proclaimed the most promising female and male athletes, respectively.

An award for the development of sports was also presented, going to the organization Sport Games of Youth. The jury awarded the prize for sports role model to Volleyball Club ORT Novo Sarajevo, while the best athlete in Paralympic sports is the phenomenal swimmer Ismail Barlov.

The award for the best team in Paralympic sports went to the BiH sitting volleyball team. Lifetime achievement awards were presented to Fahrudin Prljača, Branislav Crnogorac, and posthumously to Mladen Žižović and Đevad Šabeta. The hearts of "Nezavisne novine" readers and visitors to the portal www.nezavisne.com this year were won by taekwondo athlete Džejla Makaš, who achieved fifth place at the World Championship among seniors.
