
(Patria) - The Spanish national team defeated Hungary today in the final of the World Water Polo Championship with a score of 15-13.
The Spaniards won their fourth world championship title by defeating the Hungarian team in an exciting match played in Singapore – who remain with four titles.
The duel was decided in the last quarter, at the beginning of which the Hungarians led by two goals and missed several opportunities to increase that lead.
The match was turned around in the last five minutes, when the Hungarians hit the goal frame in three consecutive attacks. On the other hand, Alberto Munarriz, Unai Biel, and Alvaro Granados with three goals led Spain to an unreachable 14-11.
For Spain, Granados and Bertnat Sanahuja scored five goals each, and veteran Felipe Perrone scored two goals in what was likely his last career match. Goalkeeper Unai Aguirre made 12 saves.
For Hungary, Zoltan Burian scored three goals.
