(Patria) - Spain and England will play in the final of the 17th edition of the European Football Championship tonight in Berlin at 9 PM.
This will be Spain's fifth European final - they have won three times so far (1964, 2008, and 2012), while they lost to France in 1984.
In their first final in 1964 in Madrid, they defeated the Soviet Union 2-1. The hosts took the lead in the 6th minute with a goal from Jesus Pereda, and only two minutes later, Galimzhan Khusainov equalized. Marcelinho scored the winning goal for the Spaniards in the 84th minute.
Spain lost their next final in 1984 in Paris to France 0-2. Michel Platini (57) and Bruno Bellone (90) secured the victory for the "Tricolors".
Spain's last two finals were successful. In Vienna in 2008, they won 1-0 against Germany with a goal from Fernando Torres in the 33rd minute.
Four years later, they defended their title, defeating Italy 4-0 in Kyiv. The scorers were David Silva (14), Jordi Alba (41), Fernando Torres (84), and Juan Mata (88). "La Furia" then became the only national team in history to defend the championship title.
England qualified for the Euro final for the second consecutive time. In the last European Championship, they lost the final in London to Italy 2-3 after a penalty shootout.
The match ended 1-1. Luke Shaw gave "The Three Lions" the lead in the 2nd minute, and Leonardo Bonucci equalized in the 67th minute.
