(Patria) - Slovenia has officially requested the exclusion of Israel from the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, Israeli media reported on Saturday.
RTV Slovenia sent a letter to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) requesting that Israel be banned from participating in Eurovision, which will be held in Basel.
The request was submitted due to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which have been ongoing since October 7 last year, killing more than 45,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
RTV Slovenia, in case its request is not accepted, has decided to withdraw from Eurovision or, contrary to the contest's rules, to cut the broadcast during the performance of the Israeli representative.
Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar stated on December 19 that Israel and Russia are grossly violating the United Nations Charter through wars in Gaza and Russia, respectively.
- There is no difference between Israel and Russia; both are grossly violating the United Nations Charter and humanitarian law, with Israel doing so even more and on a larger scale - added Pirc Musar.
