Sinner and Alcaraz in the final of the last Grand Slam tournament of the season

(Patria) - World number one Italian Jannik Sinner and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz will play in the final of the last Grand Slam tournament of the season, the US Open.

The Italian tennis player, a four-time Grand Slam champion, won the second semi-final match after three hours and 21 minutes with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 against world number 27, Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The Italian and the Spaniard are the first pair of players since 1964 to meet three times in Grand Slam finals during the same season.

This is Sinner's fourth Grand Slam final of the season, after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and losing to Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final.

Although this was the Canadian tennis player's first Grand Slam semi-final four years after his first and only appearance at this level, he seriously troubled the Italian, especially in the second set, after which Sinner left the court for a medical time-out to receive an abdominal massage.

"I felt a slight tightness after serving, but after the treatment I felt much better," Sinner told reporters.

"I regret nothing, I played my game," the Canadian tennis player said at a press conference.

"We fought well, we played some good points. Sometimes I looked him in the eye, and in some sets I even dominated," said Auger-Aliassime, who will return to the edge of the top 10 on the next ATP list.

Sinner must beat Alcaraz on Sunday if he wants to keep the number one position on the ATP.

"I can't wait to play in the final. I feel like our rivalry started here," said Sinner.

In the first semi-final match, Alcaraz avenged two defeats to Novak Djokovic - in the Olympic final and at the Australian Open - beating him 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2.
