Shakira and Burna Boy open 2026 World Cup with spectacular show, Azteca Stadium in the spotlight of football and music

(Patria) – The 2026 World Cup officially began with a spectacular ceremony at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, where world-renowned performers Shakira and Burna Boy performed in front of more than 80,000 spectators.

The highlight of the one-hour program was the premiere performance of the tournament's official song "Dai Dai", which the Colombian pop star and the Nigerian musician performed live for the first time before an audience from around the world.

The ceremony opened with impressive visual effects and the presentation of the World Cup trophy, which, with light projections, appeared to emerge from the pitch of the Azteca Stadium. The program was further enriched by dancers in traditional Mexican costumes, mariachi bands, and numerous local and international performers.

The audience was particularly thrilled by the performance of the legendary Mexican group Maná, while during Shakira's performance, the sky above the stadium was illuminated by a spectacular fireworks display.

The event was followed by millions of viewers worldwide via television broadcasts, symbolically marking the start of a six-week football festival to be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Following the opening ceremony, the tournament's first match took place between hosts Mexico and the South African national team.
