Sensational in Melbourne: Medvedev out of Australian Open

(Patria) - The Australian Open has ended for last year's finalist, Russian Daniil Medvedev, the fifth player on the ATP list.

American Learner Tien, currently 121st on the ATP list, eliminated Medvedev with a score of 3:2, in sets 6:3, 7:6 (4), 6:7 (8), 1:6, 7:6 (7).

The match at Rod Laver Arena lasted almost five hours and ended at 2:55 AM local time.



Tien will meet Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the third round.

By reaching the third round, the nineteen-year-old tennis player has improved his best result at Grand Slam tournaments, having previously been defeated three times at the US Open in the first round.

Medvedev has played in the final in Melbourne three times in the last four years (2021, 2022, and 2024), but is still without a trophy at the Australian Open. He has his only Grand Slam title from the US Open in 2021.
