Selimović: Central Bank remains strongly committed to preserving stability, modernization, and BiH's European path

(Patria) - The Central Bank (CB) of BiH held its annual media meeting today, during which the results of its work and key achievements in 2025 were presented.

It was emphasized that the mission of the CB BiH - preserving monetary and financial stability through the issuance of domestic currency under the currency board arrangement - remains the foundation of its operations.

The strategic priorities of the CB BiH continue to be focused on monetary and financial stability, modernization and digitalization of business processes, human resource management, and international connectivity and social engagement.

CB BiH Governor Jasmina Selimović stated that 2025, despite significant global and geopolitical challenges, was marked by stable and strong results, as well as further strengthening of the CB BiH's institutional resilience and international position.

Speaking about financial indicators, she noted that the foreign exchange reserves of the CB BiH as of November 30, 2025, amounted to 18.28 billion KM, an increase of 643 million KM compared to the same period last year.

Net foreign assets on the same date amounted to 1.65 billion KM, which is 283 million KM more than in 2024.



A significant increase in the currency board coverage ratio was also recorded during 2025, which stood at 109.9% as of November 30, 2025.

Monetary gold reserves increased to their highest level since the establishment of the CB BiH, amounting to 3.5 tons, while the value of gold on the same date was 799 million KM.

The net profit achieved by the CB BiH as of November 30 was 289.77 million KM, exceeding the planned amount for 2025 of 276 million KM.

Net interest income amounted to 320 million KM, while the Bank's capital and reserves reached 1.72 billion KM as of November 30, an increase of 528 million KM compared to 2024.

Within the strategic direction of modernization and digitalization, the CB BiH continued activities to improve payment systems, including intensive work on preparations for joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), as well as further integration of the TIPS solution for instant payments.

Special attention was also paid to the process of withdrawing older banknote series from circulation and modernizing convertible mark banknotes, applying modern security and environmental standards.

During 2025, the CB BiH significantly intensified activities in the area of cyber resilience and security, through cooperation with the European Central Bank within the Cyber Resilience, Cyber Security and Payment Systems Oversight project, participation in the EU IPA project "Cyber Balkans" (2023-2026), and the implementation of a project with the United Kingdom aimed at assessing cyber maturity and strengthening the Bank's IT function.

The CB BiH also became a regular member of the European Central Bank's OSSAT platform, further enhancing banking coordination in the financial system.

In order to modernize internal operations, a digital signature was introduced into the CB BiH's business processes, an in-house application based on artificial intelligence was developed, and analytics and reporting were further improved in line with European Union requirements.

Speaking about international cooperation and European integration, Governor Selimović emphasized that the CB BiH has further strengthened its international position by hosting numerous ambassadors and representatives of international institutions, as well as through active participation and presence at numerous international and domestic conferences, forums, and expert meetings.

The intensification of activities in the process of accession to the European Union was particularly highlighted.

During the year, strong cooperation was also realized with international partners, including IFC (World Bank Group) through projects for the development of digital financial services and strengthening financial infrastructure, the Swiss SECO technical cooperation program (2025-2028) focusing on cyber security, risk management, human resources, and SEPA payment systems, and the International Monetary Fund, within which technical assistance for management was completed, with planned new activities in the segments of communications, reserve requirements, cyber security, and operational risks.



Technical assistance for the modernization of payment systems and the development of QR codes for instant payments continued with the World Bank, while cooperation with the central banks of the European Union, including the Croatian National Bank and the Austrian Central Bank, was further improved in the areas of SEPA integration and strengthening the research function.

During 2025, the CB BiH hosted numerous international conferences and events, including the TAG conference dedicated to banknote processing and security, regional and international financial gatherings, as well as initiatives aimed at improving financial inclusion and gender equality.

The "Women on Boards in the Financial Sector - BiH" program, the WE Finance Code - support for women entrepreneurs, as well as the establishment of an analytical dashboard for monitoring relevant indicators were particularly highlighted.

In the area of financial education, the CB BiH intensively worked on strengthening financial literacy during 2025, with a special focus on youth and educational institutions.

A large number of educational visits, interactive workshops, and lectures were organized, World Savings Day and Global Money Week were celebrated, and over 2,300 students visited the CB BiH.

Activities were also carried out through the work of the Financial Education and Inclusion Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with strengthening cooperation with the OECD/INFE network.

Special focus in 2025 was also placed on sustainability and ESG principles. The CB BiH continued investments in green bonds, applied a green approach in the production of banknotes and numismatics, modernized IT infrastructure, rationalized printing systems, improved virtual platforms, and ensured environmentally sound disposal of electronic waste.

The digitalization of HR processes further reduced the volume of printed material, while employees were involved in activities to raise ESG awareness, including celebrating Earth Day through afforestation of Mount Igman and International Environment Day.

At the end of the meeting, Governor Selimović stated that the CB BiH remains strongly committed to preserving stability, modernization, and the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with continued open communication and cooperation with the media and the wider public.

Vice Governors of the CB BiH Marko Vidaković and Emir Kurtić also participated in the discussion with the media, alongside Governor Selimović.
