Savo Milošević is the former coach of the BiH national football team, will Barbarez succeed him, the Association decides

(Patria) - Savo Milošević will no longer be the coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team, N1 has learned.

It was confirmed for that media house that the leaders of the N/FS BiH held a conversation with the now former coach about extending their cooperation, and the conclusion was that Savo Milošević wants new challenges, and the association wants a longer-term solution on the bench of the team which has a considerable number of young players.

Milošević was on the bench of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team for only five matches, of which he won only one, the one against Liechtenstein away in the qualifiers for the European Championship which will be held in June this year in Germany.

What are the alternative solutions?

Zvjezdan Misimović and the Executive Board of the N/FS BiH will therefore have a difficult job finding a coach who will, in the long run, as stated in an interview for N1 by the president of the N/FS BiH, Vico Zeljković, follow the new generation of young players who could achieve certain results within two to four years.

“We need to see what and how to proceed. We have already done some analyses, and the public was irritated by the frequent changes of coaches. We did that with good intentions, but it didn't work. Now we are of the opinion that when we look for a coach in the future, it will be a multi-year contract for the next 2-3 cycles. In this way, we will present ourselves to the sports public and present all the goals regarding the national team,” said the president of N/FS BIH Vico Zeljković in a recent interview for N1.

The first candidate, according to what was confirmed for N1, is Sergej Barbarez, who would be surrounded by some of the biggest legends of BiH football, such as Emir Spahić.

Zeljković, however, previously stated that Barbarez will never be the coach as long as he is the president of the N/FS BiH, so cooperation with Barbarez is still not 100% certain.

However, contact and a face-to-face meeting have occurred, and negotiations are underway.

Whoever the new coach is, they will have a difficult task to face our next opponents in friendly matches and in the Nations League, as the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team will play friendly matches against Italy and England in early June, and against teams like Germany, Hungary, and the Netherlands in the Nations League in early September 2024.
