Saudi airline flynas to buy 90 Airbus aircraft

(Patria) - European aviation giant Airbus announced that Saudi low-cost carrier flynas has signed an agreement to purchase 75 A320neo aircraft and 15 A330-900 long-haul aircraft.

The aircraft have a list price of $13 billion, although large orders usually come with significant discounts.

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding at the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom, an event that has brought big orders for Airbus's American rival Boeing.

A memorandum of understanding means that the two companies have agreed in principle to the purchase, with details to be worked out later, as opposed to a firm order that would include payments, AFP reports.

Flynas, founded in 2007, operates exclusively Airbus aircraft. Its fleet includes 52 A320 aircraft and four leased A330 aircraft. The company has already ordered 65 A320 and A321 aircraft.

The A330 ordered by flynas will be modified to accommodate 400 passengers, Airbus said, instead of 300 in the current configuration.

- The A330neo will enhance our long-haul capabilities with its advanced technology and efficiency, while supporting our growth plans and Saudi Arabia's Hajj program - said flynas CEO Bander Almohanna.
