United States convincingly open the World Cup: Paraguay beaten 4-1

(Patria) - The footballers of the United States of America opened the World Cup in brilliant fashion, defeating Paraguay 4-1 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

The Americans took the lead as early as the 7th minute through an own goal by Bobadilla, and after a goal was disallowed for offside, Folarin Balogun doubled the lead in the 31st minute with an assist from Christian Pulišić.

The same player scored the third goal in stoppage time of the first half for a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.

Paraguay reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute through Mauricio, but did not seriously threaten the hosts. The final 4-1 was set by Gio Reyna in stoppage time with a spectacular goal.

The USA thus earned their first three points of the tournament, while in the second round they will play against Australia. Paraguay will seek their first points against Turkey.
