Sabalenka defends US Open title

(Patria) - Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka won the US Open.

Sabalenka defeated American Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6 (3) last night in the final of the last Grand Slam of the season.

The two have already played each other in Grand Slams this year. Sabalenka was better at Roland Garros, and Anisimova won in the recent Wimbledon semi-final.

This time, the Belarusian showed why she is number one in the world, triumphing over the 24-year-old American without losing a set.

At the same time, the Belarusian defended her title in New York and reached her fourth Grand Slam career title - all won on hard courts - two each at the Australian Open and the US Open.

Anisimova will have to wait longer for her first Grand Slam, given that this was her second loss in a final (recently defeated at Wimbledon by Iga Swiatek 0-6, 0-6).
