RK Željezničar is returning: Club revival after a 16-year break

(Patria) - RK Željezničar proudly informs the public that after 16 years, it is resuming its operations, with a clear ambition to once again become an important sports symbol of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

48 years ago today, RK Željezničar won the championship title of former Yugoslavia and forever inscribed itself among the great and recognizable names of handball in this region. Generations of athletes, fans, and handball enthusiasts remember Željezničar as a club of tradition, character, and winning spirit. It is precisely this tradition that today represents an obligation and motivation to return handball in Sarajevo to its former glory.

A large number of people from various segments of society have gathered around the idea of reviving the club – former athletes, businessmen, fans, sports workers, and friends of the club – with the common goal of returning Željezničar to where it belongs.

The club's strategic commitment from day one is the development of young players through its own academy and the creation of a domestic base of handball players who will wear the RK Željezničar jersey in the years to come. In this regard, cooperation has already been established with the Sedmerac Handball School, which represents an important step in creating a quality youth system and the long-term development of the club.

In parallel, the player roster for the upcoming season, in which the club will compete in the First League of FBiH, is being finalized. The management's commitment is to rely on local players from Sarajevo, along with a few handball players from other regions. The desire is for RK Željezničar to be a club with a strong domestic identity and recognizable character.

RK Željezničar has already established contacts and held preliminary talks about cooperation with some members of the Željezničar sports society, with the aim of joint development, mutual support, and strengthening the sports identity by creating a strong sports family under the name Željezničar, of which the handball club wishes to be a recognizable part.

A big job, but also great emotion, lies ahead for the management, coaching staff, and players. The club counts on the support of everyone who has handball and the color blue in their hearts, especially the support of the fans who have been an important part of Željezničar's identity for decades.

Most importantly – RK Željezničar is returning.
