Bosnia and Herzegovina representative Toni Miletić wins bronze at European Judo Cup in Sarajevo

(Patria) - The two-day European Judo Cup for Seniors Sarajevo 2025 concluded today in the capital of our country.

The second competition day also offered extremely interesting and exciting fights, and the first preliminary bouts hinted that all visitors of this prestigious international competition, whose technical organizer is the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, would be able to enjoy high-quality performances.

The second day of the competition, which attracted more than 300 male and female judokas from 30 countries, was reserved for women in the -48, -52 and -57 kg categories and men in the -81, -90, -100 and +100 kg categories.

The most notable performance among the representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina was by Toni Miletić - four wins in five bouts were enough for a bronze medal, which he achieved thanks to a triumph against Vojin Mandić from Serbia.

Miletić missed the chance to fight for gold in the category up to 90 kilograms after a defeat against 18-year-old Italian Cristian Mincinesi, who was defeated in the final by Polish athlete Derek Marczak.

- I knew the competition would be strong, and I think after everything I can say I was not wrong in my assessment. I am sorry about that semifinal bout and the loss because I really wanted to win gold in my city, in front of my home crowd.

This time I did not succeed, but it is always nice to be on the podium - said Bosnia and Herzegovina representative Toni Miletić after the medal ceremony.

The most successful at the European Judo Cup for Seniors were members of the IJF team with three gold, one silver and three bronze medals, while Italy took second place with two gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Third place went to the Poles (two gold, three silver and two bronze).

Also worth noting is the fact that among the 28 referees at the European Judo Cup for Seniors Sarajevo 2025, there were five officials from Bosnia and Herzegovina with a badge from the International Judo Federation (IJF), and our homeland was represented by Siniša Đukić, Admir Vražalica, Mladen Vuković, Danijela Mučibabić and Selma Sejdinović Hodžić.

Once again, the technical organization was at a high level, and the fact that the European Judo Union has great confidence in the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is confirmed by important news from Riga.

Namely, our celebrated Bosnian-Herzegovinian judoka Larisa Cerić took over the EJU flag after the European Judo Championships in Kata concluded, meaning that our country will host the next continental championship.
