Record, trophy, and eight medals for Mostar's 'Orka' at swimming meet in Podgorica

(Patria) - At the International Swimming Meet "Podgorica Open 2024", held on July 13th and 14th in Podgorica, swimmers from Mostar's "Orka" won eight medals and achieved notable success.

This meet gathered over 420 swimmers from 51 clubs, with participants from 13 countries: Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Poland, Kosovo, Albania, Azerbaijan, Germany, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Accompanied by coaches Mateo Vidaković and Dino Jelin, six swimmers from the "Orka" Water Sports Club competed at this meet: Danis Harmandić, Jure Trubarac, Klara Drlja, Mak Torlo, Igor Knezović, and Merjem Čampara.

The most valuable result was achieved by Danis Harmandić, who in the final race of the 100-meter breaststroke discipline swam a time of the new absolute national record of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 01:05.38, simultaneously winning first place, thus the city of Mostar, alongside the undisputed Lana Pudar and earlier Amina Kajtaz, gained another national record holder in the absolute category.

Besides Danis, young Merjem Čampara also excelled in Podgorica, winning four gold medals in the 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle, and 400m freestyle disciplines. Merjem also won the trophy for the best female swimmer of the meet in her category.

Jure Trubarac won two bronze medals in the 200m and 400m freestyle disciplines, and Mak Torlo also won two bronze medals in the 200m backstroke and 200m breaststroke disciplines.

Next weekend, swimmers from the "Orka" Water Sports Club will compete in Trebinje at the international swimming meet “Srđan i Maksim”, which will also be the last competition in this part of the season.

"Orka" states that there is still no break or rest for the best BiH swimmer Lana Pudar, who is currently with her team in final preparations in Turkey, after which she will travel to the biggest global sporting event, the "Paris 2024" Summer Olympic Games.
