Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Ljubljana today, where he was welcomed by Slovenian President Borut Pahor. Putin visited the Russian Chapel on the Alpine pass of Vršič.
From Barnik airport, where Putin's plane arrived with a one-hour delay, the president headed to Vršič in a motorcade accompanied by his ministers.
Among the 3,000 people gathered at Vršič was former Slovenian President Milan Kučan, who stated that he expects even better relations between the two countries from the visit.
The Russian Chapel was erected in memory of Russian prisoners of war from World War I who died during the construction of the road over Vršič, and it now represents a symbol of friendship between two nations that, as assessed, still maintain exceptionally good relations today.
In addition, Putin will unveil a monument to fallen Russian and Soviet soldiers at the cemetery in Ljubljana.
