First man of Italian football Gabriele Gravina resigns

(Patria) - President of the Italian Football Federation Gabriele Gravina has resigned following dissatisfaction over elimination in the World Cup play-offs. Gravina attended the match Bosnia and Herzegovina - Italy in Zenica, and upon returning to Italy, he faced a demand for resignation.

The now former FIGC president did so during a meeting with all federation stakeholders at the headquarters in Via Allegri, which he himself urgently convened after Italy's failure to qualify for the upcoming World Cup.

The meeting lasted just under half an hour.

The resignation was announced and made after more than 24 hours of reflection, which began in Zenica and continued the following day. It is an act of responsibility, taken regardless of various pressures, including those from the Minister for Sports and Youth, Andrea Abodi.

Gravina will now continue to perform his duties in a technical mandate.

An assembly has already been scheduled for June 22 to elect a new president, while candidacies must be submitted within 40 days.

This was the third qualification campaign in which Italy failed to secure a spot at the World Cup, which as expected caused dissatisfaction in Italy.
