Businesspeople Announce Suspension of Investments: Minimum Wage Decision Leads to Economic Stagnation

(Patria) - The President of the Employers' Association in FBiH, Adnan Smailbegović, has attended numerous meetings with businesspeople across the country in the past few days.

The meetings, which gathered more than 500 representatives from various economic sectors, discussed the harmful effects of the FBiH Government's Decision on the minimum wage for 2025, which has caused shock and concern among businesspeople.

The public is already aware of the very likely consequences of this decision, including the possibility of mass layoffs, a reduction in new jobs and the competitiveness of the domestic economy, as well as the closure or relocation of companies and production facilities to the RS or even neighboring countries.

However, what is not being discussed, and what is of crucial importance for the future of the economy in FBiH, is the fact that businesspeople are widely announcing the suspension of new investments and a reduction in existing investments.

The halt of investments means economic stagnation, reduced competitiveness, the inability to create new jobs, fewer opportunities for innovation and industrial progress, as well as a decrease in FBiH's attractiveness as a destination for foreign investors.

If urgent steps are not taken to reform the business environment, FBiH could find itself in a position of economic slowdown, and the consequences will be felt not only in the business community but also in the daily lives of all citizens, because economic stagnation leads to a decline in living standards, a reduction in state revenues, and hinders access to social services.

Businesspeople emphasize the importance of assessing the current situation and possible consequences and call for an open and professional dialogue. The first opportunity for joint dialogue is the scheduled session of the Economic and Social Council, initiated by the UPFBiH at the beginning of next week.
