(Patria) - American media reported that Jerry West (86), the legendary Los Angeles Lakers basketball player, has passed away.
West spent his entire career with the Lakers, playing for them from 1960 until 1974, and also served as their coach from 1976 to 1979.
He also won eight titles as a general manager, first with the Lakers and then with the Warriors.
He was an NBA champion once as a player, and achieved a great individual success in 1969 when he received the award for the most valuable player of the finals as a member of the losing team, which happened only once.

He appeared in the All-Star game fourteen times and was selected for the league's best team ten times.
He is one of seven players in history to have won the award for the league's top scorer and assist provider.
The Lakers retired his jersey with the number 44, and he earned the greatest honor when the league based its official logo on his silhouette. West has been nicknamed The Logo ever since.
He won gold with the US national team at the Rome Games in 1960.
