Franjo Vladić, one of Velež's greatest footballers, has passed away

(Patria) - Franjo Vladić, one of Velež's greatest footballers of all time, passed away today at the age of 74.

Vladić started his career at the Mostar club where he played for both the youth and first teams for some time. After 13 seasons, he moved to AEK Athens, where he played for three years, and then returned to Velež.

He played a total of over 700 matches and scored 300 goals. He led the game of the Mostar first-division team. Intelligent, refined technician, master of long passes and dribbling.

He was the brain of the team and the initiator of all actions, often called the "foreman". He was a member of the famous Mostar BMW, which he formed together with Dušan Bajević and Enver Marić.

He played for the Yugoslavian national football team in all age categories: 18 times in the youth team, 12 times in the Olympic team, and 24 times in the senior team, for which he also scored three goals.

He first appeared for the senior national team in 1972 in London against England (1:1, scorer), and for the last time in 1977 in Leon against Mexico (1:5).
