(Patria) - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called Israel a genocidal state.
Namely, he gave this position after a question about trade with Israel posed by Catalan representative Gabriel Rufian.
“I will clarify one thing, Mr. Rufian. We do not trade with a genocidal state. We do not trade. I think I explained some days ago from this platform what we are talking about, when some statements are made that are not true,” said Sanchez.
His comments caused anger in Israel, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Spanish ambassador for a conversation.
“Following the harsh statements by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish ambassador to Israel has been summoned for a meeting tomorrow at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
We remind you that Spain has publicly accused Israel of acts related to genocide since joining South Africa's lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice, along with Ireland, another EU member state, and other countries.
