(Patria) - President of the Football Federation of Iran Mehdi Taj said that he does not know if the national team can play World Cup matches in the United States after the sudden American and Israeli bombing of his country, AP reported.
"What is certain is that after this attack, we cannot expect to look forward to the World Cup with hope," Mehdi Taj told the sports portal Varzesh3 as Iran exchanged blows with Israel.
Iran was drawn into Group G at the World Cup and is scheduled to play in Los Angeles against New Zealand and Belgium on June 15 and 21, before playing against Egypt in Seattle on June 26.
The United States is hosting the tournament with Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. Iranian fans were already banned from entering the United States in the first version of the travel ban announced by the Donald Trump administration.
FIFA did not immediately respond to AP's email regarding the current situation concerning Iran's participation in the World Cup.
