Portugal, Turkey and Georgia Advance, Czechs Eliminated from Euro

(Patria) - Portugal, Turkey and Georgia secured their spots in the round of 16 from Group F at the European Football Championship being held in Germany.

Georgia caused a surprise and celebrated a victory over the favoured Portugal 2:0 tonight, while Turkey recorded a win over the Czechs with a score of 2:1.

The Georgians, currently the 74th-ranked national team in the world, defeated Portugal with goals from Kvaratskhelia in the 2nd minute and Mikautadze from a penalty in the 57th minute, reports Faktor.

In the other match, the Czechs were left with a man down early, as Barak received two yellow cards between the 11th and 20th minutes.

Turkey took advantage of the numerical superiority in the 51st minute and took a 1:0 lead thanks to a goal from Calhanoglu.

Soucek brought the Czech Republic level in the 66th minute, and in stoppage time, Tosun scored for Turkey's victory.

Austria, England, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Romania advanced as group winners.

Denmark, France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and Turkey go into the knockout round from second place, and the best third-placed teams are the Netherlands, Slovenia, Slovakia and Georgia.

Albania, Croatia, Poland, Scotland, Serbia, Hungary, Czech Republic and Ukraine ended their participation after the group stage.

The round of 16 matches are played from June 29 to July 2.
