(Patria) - Young driver Dino Beganović excelled in qualifying and secured pole position for the first main race of the new Formula 2 season at the Melbourne track.
The Swede of Bosnian-Herzegovinian origin, whose parents are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, reached the first place in a dramatic finish to the qualifying.
In his final attempt, Beganović improved his time and overtook the Rodin Motorsport drivers, Martinus Stenshorne and Alexander Dunne, who finished qualifying in second and third positions.
A great battle for the top spot was seen at the very end, as the leading position changed hands as many as three times in the final seconds.
In the end, Beganović secured pole position thanks to a lap of 1:28.695.
Sprint race on Saturday
The Formula 2 season begins with a sprint race scheduled for Saturday at 2:10 PM local time in Australia, or 4:10 AM our time.
Due to the reverse grid rules, Beganović will start that race from 10th position.
Main race on Sunday
The main race of the weekend will be held on Sunday at 1:25 AM our time, and Beganović will then have a great opportunity for a top result as he starts from the first starting position.
