(Patria) - The best Bosnian alpine skier Elvedina Muzaferija had a serious crash during yesterday's first official training in Andorra, where the FIS World Cup competition continues.
Due to an ankle injury, Muzaferija will not be able to compete in the downhill race scheduled for tomorrow.
The incident occurred at high speed, near the end of the first section of the course.
After a small jump, Muzaferija hit a gate, then lost her balance and hit the track hard, and then the safety fence, as confirmed by her team.
- The crash was really serious, but I can say I got off much better than I could have. Fortunately, the airbag vest activated on time and cushioned the impacts with the track and the fence - said Muzaferija.
After receiving immediate medical attention, detailed examinations were performed, which showed changes in the ankle area.
Further tests are underway, and a specialist will have the final say.
- Certain diagnostic procedures have been performed, and I am awaiting the specialist's opinion on some findings. It is certain that I will not ski in today's training or tomorrow's downhill.
The chances of me competing in the Super-G races this weekend are slim, but as long as there is even a minimal possibility, I am hopeful - Muzaferija stated.
A women's downhill race is planned for tomorrow in Soldeu, while the weekend will be reserved for Super-G, including the makeup race for the one previously canceled in Zauchensee.
