Plenković's victory speech: We start forming a new majority tomorrow morning

Parliamentary elections for the 11th convocation of the Croatian Parliament were held in Croatia on Wednesday. According to the preliminary results of the State Election Commission (DIP), HDZ has a significant lead over other parties. During the night, HDZ gained another mandate, so now, after 99.3 percent of polling stations counted, they have 61 mandates.

Andrej Plenković, who could be heading for his third term as prime minister, gave a victory speech last night, stating that his party's victory was convincing.

“From tomorrow morning, we will start forming a new majority to form our third government. I want to congratulate all other parties defeated by HDZ,” he added.

He announced the continuation of current policies.

“We had to conduct the campaign in the context of violations by Milanović and those who support them. It is concerning that they continue to talk about a government of national salvation that is supposed to save us from Schengen, LNG, and other achievements. This large difference between us and other parties, especially those who tonight articulated a kind of hate speech towards HDZ. I invite all parties that have received trust, and do not show such exclusivity as those we have defeated, who have not moved forward except for one mandate, I mean SDP, which despite all the vitriol won only one mandate more,” he said.

He also thanked all partners. “Special thanks to all members of HDZ, our volunteers, everyone who supported this path with their efforts, and congratulations to everyone elected to the Parliament.”

“We will take care of Croatia's interests, and the Croatian economy has one key interest – guaranteeing stability, forming a new majority as soon as possible, and a new government,” Plenković added.

“Thanking everyone who contributed to this magnificent victory, I want to thank you, I suggest we have some fun now because it is a time of victory and celebration,” Plenković said last night.
