Peljto to officiate career-defining match tonight

(Patria) - Tonight's continuation of the Champions League brings two major clashes – Arsenal hosts Real Madrid at the Emirates, while Bayern and Inter will face off in Munich. Football fans can expect excitement at the highest level, and a special reason for local pride comes from London.

Namely, the historic match at the Emirates Stadium will be officiated by Irfan Peljto, the most prominent referee from Bosnia and Herzegovina. This 40-year-old has been entrusted by UEFA to officiate the first match of the quarterfinals of the most elite European club competition – the biggest task of his career to date.

Although he has already refereed 14 matches in the Champions League, all of them were in earlier stages – group and play-off rounds, such as the match between Brest and PSG this season, and last year's encounter between Leipzig and Real. This will be his debut in a knockout phase of such high caliber.

Arsenal is no stranger to him – he officiated their away matches in Norway twice as part of the Europa League, where the "Gunners" celebrated victories against Molde and Bodo Glimt without conceding a goal.

Peljto already has experience from the quarterfinals of European competitions, but at the Conference League level, where he officiated the match between Lech and Fiorentina. However, tonight's encounter at the Emirates raises the bar to an entirely new level.

On the field, he will have the support of his regular assistants – Senad Ibrišimbegović and Davor Beljo – while Miloš Gigović will serve as the fourth official. In the VAR room are Germans Bastian Dankert and Christian Dingert, which further ensures quality control of the match.
