5th Knightly Race 'Knight Runs for World Kidney Day' Held: Fastest Are Berin Mušanović and Amela Trožić

(Patria) - The Association of Transplanted and Dialysis Patients of the Central Bosnia Canton organized today the 5th Knightly Race with about 300 participants from several countries. The 5 km race was first completed in 17 minutes and 30 seconds by Berin Mušanović, and among women, Amela Trožić finished in 21:01 minutes.

The President of the Association of Transplanted and Dialysis Patients of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tomislav Žuljević, said that World Kidney Day was marked a month ago, but the race was postponed due to religious holidays.

"This is all in the context of preventing kidney disease, given that every tenth person in the world has some form of kidney disease. The best way to fight kidney diseases is prevention, and we organize this race to encourage people to start engaging in physical activity," said Žuljević.

Speaking about transplant medicine in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Žuljević emphasized that the situation is far from ideal.

"We have not had a single transplant for 150 days, which saddens us, and unfortunately we will be forced to take to the streets to demand our rights because it is impossible not to perform a single transplant in four or five months. This is unacceptable for a serious country," said Žuljević.

In the world, more than 850 million people have this type of disease, and statistics say that every tenth person in the world is a potential kidney patient.
