From this year, October 22nd is officially the Day of the National Theatre Sarajevo

(Patria) - The National Theatre Sarajevo announced this evening that from this year, October 22nd will be officially declared the Day of the National Theatre Sarajevo.

The decision was made in memory of October 22, 1921, when the first musical-stage program was performed in this institution - marking the beginning of a rich and continuous theatrical tradition in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- This date has exceptional symbolic significance as it marks the beginning of professional theatre in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. By declaring the Day of the National Theatre, we want to transform tradition into lasting memory and contemporary cultural identity - stated the management of the National Theatre.

As part of the ceremony, the National Theatre Sarajevo will annually award annual awards on October 22nd for the best artistic achievements of the season, as well as special recognitions to distinguished artists who have left a strong mark on the development of theatre with their work and creativity.

Thus, according to the organizers, not only is the past honored, but encouragement is also given to future creativity.

This year's celebration of the Day of the National Theatre will also be marked by the premiere of the first Bosnian-Herzegovinian musical - "Sarajevo, My Dear" by Zlatan Fazlić Fazla, a work that celebrates the spirit and identity of the city through music, emotion, and memory.

This project brings together a large ensemble of actors, dancers, the choir of the Opera and Ballet of the National Theatre Sarajevo, the Sarajevo Philharmonic, a large number of musicians, and technical teams, thus symbolically connecting tradition and modernity.

From now on, the Day of the National Theatre will be an opportunity for artists, audiences, and citizens to gather in a joint celebration of theatre and culture, confirming that the stage in the heart of Sarajevo, even after 104 years, remains a vibrant place of encounter between art and society.
