New medals for BH judokas: Vučurević silver, Hebib bronze

(Patria) - Bosnian-Herzegovinian judokas won two medals on the second competition day of the Sarajevo European Open, one silver and one bronze, and four in total if added to the awards won on Saturday by Aleksandra Samardžić (gold) and Lana Bjelica (bronze).

After excellent performances in the preliminary bouts, in the final of the category up to 90 kilograms Božidar Vučurević had to settle for the silver medal, although he opened the fight well against Serbian representative Boško Borenović and took the lead after a Waza-ari.

Despite the fact that gold eluded him, the first medal at a continental Open is certainly a reason for satisfaction for Vučurević and his coach Mitar Mrdić.

In the same competition in which Vučurević won silver, Toni Miletić, a BH judoka currently ranked 80th on the world ranking list, was defeated in Golden score by Serbian representative Islam Sogenov.

The fourth medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Sarajevo European Open was brought by Mustafa Hebib in the category up to 81 kilograms, with a triumph against Hungarian representative Toth Botond. For the 22-year-old Hebib, this was his second medal at a continental Open.

The number of awards won by BH judokas could have been higher, but Lejla Karić failed to defeat
Nikolina Nišavić from Serbia in the category up to 52 kilograms.

The Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina once again proved to be an excellent technical organizer and earned high marks from the European Judo Union, which is why it is no surprise that it hosted several major competitions this calendar year, and it is certain that there will be more in 2025.

Finally, it is worth noting that notable results at the European Cup for Cadets held in Koper, Slovenia, were achieved by young BH judokas, who won four bronze medals. The medalists were Petra Čuljak, Ramiz Pašić, Imran Gušić, and Nikola Lubura.
