Germany Easily Reaches Quarter-finals, Denmark Without Much Resistance Against Hosts of the Euros

(Patria) - The knockout stage of the European Football Championship in Germany has begun. The first Round of 16 match of Euro 2024 was played today between Switzerland and Italy at 6 PM, and the Swiss deservedly won and advanced to the quarter-finals.

The "Elf" used their home advantage and the support of their fans at the "Signal Iduna Park" in Dortmund to easily reach the quarter-finals.

At the start of the match, in the 4th minute, the Danish net shook. Schlotterbeck scored, but the goal was preceded by a foul, so after a VAR check, the score returned to 0-0.

After that, Kimmich and Havertz missed chances for Germany, and the Danes first seriously threatened through Maehle in the 24th minute.

In the 35th minute, English referee Michael Oliver led the players off the pitch due to adverse weather conditions. Heavy rain and hail were falling. Thunder and lightning were above the stadium. The interruption lasted a total of 24 minutes.

In the 48th minute, Andersen celebrated a Danish goal, but it turned out that the assist provider, Delaney, was in an offside position. Referee Oliver disallowed the goal after a VAR intervention.

Five minutes later, VAR intervened again. Andersen's hand was hit by the ball in the Danish penalty area, the English referee went to watch the replay and very quickly pointed to the penalty spot.

Havertz placed the ball at 11 meters and scored, even though Schmeichel dived the right way.

In the 59th minute, Havertz had a chance to seal the match, but he sent the ball just wide of the post from a promising position.

Hojlund shot directly at Neuer from the penalty area in the 66th minute, and in the 68th minute, Germany settled the winner and the ticket to the quarter-finals with a counter-attack goal by Musiala.

Bosnian referee Irfan Peljto served as the fourth official in this match.

Germany will play the winner of the Spain vs. Georgia match in the quarter-finals on July 5th in Stuttgart.
