(Patria) - After winning a lawsuit against German Bundesliga club Mainz, Dutch footballer Anwar El Ghazi (29) will donate 500,000 euros to help children in the Gaza Strip.
The Dutchman in mid-July won a lawsuit against Mainz, which terminated his contract after his social media posts in which he expressed support for Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Mainz initially suspended El Ghazi and then terminated his contract in November following his social media posts.
The Dutch forward of Moroccan descent stated that he cannot remain silent, adding that there is no justification for the killing of thousands of children in Gaza.

The Dutchman filed a lawsuit, and the court ruled in his favor.
German media reported that Mainz must pay him his salary for the past nine months, totaling 1.7 million euros. El Ghazi will donate half a million euros to children in the Gaza Strip.
"I want to thank Mainz for two things. First, for the significant financial payout, of which 500,000 euros will go towards funding projects for children in Gaza.
Second, for making my voice for the oppressed and voiceless heard louder in their attempts to silence me," he wrote on social media.
El Ghazi will continue his career at Welsh club Cardiff City, and during his career, he also played for Ajax, Lille, PSV, Aston Villa, and Everton.
